Meet the World’s First Thermal Imaging Phone Camera


The “Cat S60” mobile phone sees in total darkness with integrated FLIR thermal camera, It boasts impressive specs and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The “Cat S60” showed off during during the week’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

“Everything in the universe either emits thermal energy or reflects thermal energy and the camera senses that and detects that and that’s what it replicates on the screen,” senior product manager at Bullitt, Pete Cunningham, said at MWC.

There are many uses for this phone such as firefighters navigating a smoke-filled room to avoid fire or police officers being able to prove when a vehicle was last driven. The phone also enables users to capture the temperature of multiple points within a room at the same time.

The phone is expected to be popular among electricians, mechanics, and builders. It helps to detect pipe’s leaking or gas is leaking by holding the phone against the wall.

In addition to being the world’s first smartphone to integrate thermal imaging it’s also the world’s most waterproof phone, Cat S60 can go to depth of five meters waterproof. It’s also designed to be dropped from 1.8 meters onto concrete without smashing

The  will be available in June, retailing at $599 USD.
