Facebook is taking attention of large audiences of American football by launching a new platform called Facebook Sports Stadium.
Facebook Sports Stadium is a social media site that provides real-time updates on games, popular posts from fans, statistics and commentary from experts. It describes as a dedicated place to experience sports in real-time with the world.
The new service appears to be an effort to compete with Twitter’s territory, a micro-blogging site has long been a popular destination for “live-tweeting” games.
Facebook said that it has rolled out its virtual stadium in time for the American football games, but it will expand to include other sports from around the world, like basketball and soccer.
Facebook claims it has 650 million sports fans on its platform who will be excited to join the its stadium. The service will be available on iPhone’s in the United States starting Thursday.
