Every day we look in the mirror. We are standing in the bathroom, preparing ourselves for the day. We put a nice suit or dress on and evaluate what we see.
Whether you are a CEO, director, or only a mother – that does not matter. We portray a role that we are playing. It is a role that many of us define ourselves by. We even introduce ourselves leading with a title: “Hello, my name is … I am the Director of …”
Now I want to ask you:
What does a cat see when it looks into the mirror?
Answer: A lion.
And what does a lion see?
The answer: A cat.
And what do you see in the mirror?
A top leader?
A tough negotiator?
Any time you consider yourself a perfectly respectable, decent or competent leader, you are resting on your laurels. What matters is not what you were, what you did, or what you accomplished yesterday, but what you are today.
The result that you achieved something great in the past will be too obvious to others.
When you look inside yourself you see your soul’s mirror, it is within you and outside of you. It is also unique to you. You cannot buy this mirror image. You will only see your true self when you are blind for the external thoughts, opinions, expectations and standards of others.
Acknowledge your true self with open arms and embrace all aspects that you see — the good, the bad and the ugly.
What should you learn
Yesterday’s success is today’s failure, if you don’t continue to improve yourself and work on yourself furthermore.
Just focus on the person you see in the mirror at the very moment.
And take this person as guiding image.
You are capable of so much more.
Don’t rest on your laurels and successes!
“Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.”
