Alejandro González Iñárritu won best director oscar for “The Revenant,”  Two years in a row, as He won last year for “Birdman.”

Alejandro split his speech between thanking his star Leonardo DiCaprio and addressing the diversity issue.

I can’t believe this is happening – it’s amazing to receive this award tonight,” he said.

“But it’s much more beautiful for me to share it with all the talented and crazy cast and crew members across the continent who made this film possible.”

He added: “Leo you are The Revenant thank you for giving your soul, your heart, your life.”

Iñárritu went on to thank “all the Native American cast, the English, the American cast” before quoting a line from his film about racism: “They don’t listen to you they just see the colour of your skin.”

He concluded: “What a great opportunity to our generation to liberate ourselves from all prejudice and tribal thinking… when the colour of the skin becomes as relevant as the length of our hair.”
